Our Curriculum

At St Anne’s we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework in our Nursery and Reception classes and the National Primary Curriculum for all areas of learning in Key Stage 1 and 2 (Year 1 to Year 6).

English and Maths are taught daily to develop, refine and improve pupil’s skill, knowledge and understanding.  All other National Curriculum subjects are timetabled throughout the week so pupils have weekly input of the full range of subjects.  Learning in many subjects is often linked to a key theme which allows for greater engagement, interest and curiosity.  Whilst following the National Curriculum, we always firstly think about our own pupils and how we can make learning relevant and accessible, as well as taking in to account our great location and how we can make use of this to support experiential learning.  A broad and balanced curriculum is very important in ensuring that pupils enjoy a wide range of learning and depth of skill.

We strive to provide high quality education in exciting and stimulating ways that capture the imagination of our children. Some of the many ways we achieve this include:

  • specialist visits,
  • workshops,
  • trips to places that link to themes and support experiential learning,
  • sports coaching,
  • music – including singing, listening to music and playing instruments.

We understand the importance of allowing and encouraging pupils to express themselves in a creative manner through an enriched curriculum that seeks to educate the whole child.  We believe that children learn best when the learning is meaningful to them and is connected to their own experiences and lives.

For further information about individual subjects, please see the Subjects section.

Curriculum overviews (Letters)

Curriculum letters are sent home each half term to inform parents of what pupils are learning across the different subjects, as well as being accessible here.
